Chris Lake & Abel Balder Release Smooth House BOP, ‘Ease My Mind’

Iconic house producer Chris Lake and Amsterdam based singer/producer Abel Balder recently collaborated on “Ease My Mind,” a buttery smooth bop with illustrious vocals and a catchy hook. Gorgeous keyboards and synth bars also add melody to the song rhythmic foundation. The consistent, foot tapping drum beat is PERFECT for a club dance floor or large festival. Funky guitar and bass notes complement the House beat while adding to the track’s layers. The duo’s production coats “Ease My Mind” in a vibrant hue, while Abel Balder’s vocals shine and bounce like a firefly in the night. His range is INCREDIBLE. Abel Balder can go from deep, bassy lows. To euphoric highs that touch the stars at seconds notice. Abel’s range easily adapts to the track’s shifting sounds.

The lyrics are just as strong as the vocals and beat. Capturing a sense of longing that is unusually casual. This feeling of longing is contradicted at times and validated at others. The song’s narrator asks:

“Where’ve you gone? Baby, can you ease my mind?”

This shows that he is concerned about what his love interest is up to, while also admitting that their presence provides him comfort. However, the next lines toe the line of contradiction.

“On the phone, I miss you, but I’ll be alright. No control, I’m running, I can feel tonight. Can you shine your light?”

The narrator is on the phone with their interest and admits he misses them, but is still content. The next lines seem to imply that the night has grown more intense. The narrator admits to losing control and looking for the illuminating prescience of the interest. This could be in a literal sense, searching for them like a spotlight at a crowded party. Or a more digital sense of keeping in contact throughout this escalating night. Perhaps the interest’s night is going the same way.

These lyrics loop on repeat with a small exception. The narrator asks the interest to “hold me tight” towards the end of a few bars. This implies an escalation in the narrator’s sense of longing that they cannot ignore. “Ease My Mind” ends on a pleasant cliffhanger, as we do not find out if the love interest feels the same way, or how the night concludes.
