Five Acts to Catch at EDC Las Vegas This Weekend!

And just like that, it’s EDC Week in Las Vegas. This week marks the week dedicated to the Electric Daisy Carnival, one of the largest electronic music festivals in the United States, that will be taking place this weekend in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. If you’re one of the lucky ones that got a three-day pass to the highly coveted annual event, it’s likely that you’re counting down the hours until you make it to the strip and get to spend three nights under the electric sky with all of your festie besties! You’ve probably spent since last EDC planning what you’d wear, where you’ll stay, and who’s going to be in your group, but now comes the best part: it’s time to pick out who will the soundtrack to your festival experience! If you haven’t quite narrowed it down yet, no worries, because this list should help you create the perfect weekend under the electric sky.

Jazzy Jeff Boiler Room London DJ Set

DJ Jazzy Jeff, or many know him as Jazz, is a DJ hailing from Philadelphia. Some may know him as Will Smith’s best friend from the 90s hit-sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but DJ Jazzy Jeff made a name for himself long before that. As a hip-hop and R&B producer, DJ Jazzy Jeff has had many successes such as a Grammy for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and “Summertime”. Along with that, he’s received recognition as one of the first turntablists to make the transition scratch famous. If you’re headed into EDC this weekend, make sure you catch DJ Jazzy Jeff. His insanely refined, master skills on the turntable is unbelievable (and if you don’t believe me, watch that video of his Boiler Room London Set). Not only is it incredible that this festival is bridging the gaps between all genres, but that they’re paying tribute not only to newer DJs, but also DJs that came before them!

Thee Cool Cats Ball Out EP

This Mexicali-duo is pure fire. Their biggest break came when CUFF label head Amine Edge played their track “Off The Pump” in a recorded set and since then, Thee Cool Cats have been lighting up dance floors with their G-house swag. Most recently, they released an EP on Sleazy G with Phoenix-native, Bijou, titled Ball Out EP, which features the singles “Ball Out” and “Shut”. Thee Cool Cats is definitely an act you don’t want to miss at EDC, not only is it their first time playing the large Las Vegas festival, but their also an act hailing from Mexicali, Mexico and it’s good to show our friends from south of the border a little love.

Amine Edge & Dance G-House DJ set in Mixmag’s Lab

While on the subject of G-house OGs, there’s no way to talk about that without mentioning Amine Edge & Dance. Hailing from Paris, France, Amine Edge & DANCE are noted as major symbolic figures in the G-house movement. Although they are two separate musical entities, Amine Edge & DANCE continuously team up to bring that gangsta flavor with a house music twist. Be sure to catch the CUFF label heads tear it up at EDC.

Catz ‘n Dogz Live at Movement Detroit 2015

Catz ‘N Dogz are no stranger to the tech house scene. Getting their start in 2003, the Polish duo started out as 3 Channels, paving their way with their unique sound. While they’ve had many successes in the European electronic scene, their big break in the U.S. came when Dirtybird poppa, Claude VonStroke, had them remix “Who’s Afraid of Detroit?” and the rest has been booty shaking history. The pair has a groove that is undeniably futuristic in the tech house world that never goes without acknowledging the dance music roots of the past (as they made clear in their set from Movement Detroit last month). They have a knack for seamlessly blending a variety of sounds from deep house, to techno, to disco, and everything else in between. Catz ‘N Dogz is not going to be a set to miss this weekend at Electric Daisy Carnival.

Dimitri From Paris Live @ Berkley Suite Glasgow- RBMA UK Tour

Dimitri From Paris is a dance music veteran with a glamorous music path. Born in Turkey, then later relocating to Paris, Dimitri From Paris got his first introduction to the life of DJing while working in a Paris radio station. Since then, he’s been credited with introducing the first ever house music radio show in Paris and he hasn’t looked back since. While the DJ does spend time playing many clubs and festivals, he has also notably produced runway soundtracks for fashion greats such as Chanel, Yves Saint-Laurent, and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Make sure to save a groove or two for Dimitri From Paris!
