RB Weekend Preview: Dancing in a Puddle of Melted Face

The weekend rolls around once again, this time bringing with it the Bassrush Takeover with some of the biggest names in bass music, as well as some amazing shows from some amazing talent. In addition to the first touring Bassrush show, Phoenix has the honor of hosting rising Chicago-based trio, Autograf, Hungarian international dance extraordinaires, Myon & Shane 54, and the all-embracing flamboyant talents of Aleksander Vinter, or Savant. Check out all of what we have to offer to you here:

Leave Your Autograf at Bar Smith (6/12   9:00pm)

With their edgy tropical sound, Autograf has often been compared to Kygo, but their music has a character all of its own. The group of three, consisting of Jake Carpenter, Louis Kha and Mikul Wing, are on a meteoric rise to fame, but according to Louis of Autograf, “It’s not about getting famous overnight; it’s more about the journey you go on and how you get there”, and what a journey it has been thus far for the Chicago-based trio. With one of them starting as an art student studying painting and sculpture, another as a street artist, and the third as a derivative trader, Jake, Louis, and Mikul come from very different backgrounds. They all came together through DJing weekly loft parties in their home town, and creating music in their free time. Eventually, they decided to call it quits on their day jobs and take up music as a full-time project.

What makes this group of three special is that they don’t forget their past. They incorporate their artistic talents into their music by designing and building their own productions, creating sculptures and figures that represent a sort of art show to go along with their musical work. They even build their own instruments. Up until now they have released a number of fantastic remixes from artists like Lorde, Pharrell, and ODESZA, as well as some original pieces that absolutely do not disappoint. Don’t miss a unique experience that is sure to be an extremely memorable one this Friday night at Bar Smith!

Summer of Love with Myon & Shane 54 at Release (6/13   11:00am)

The Hungarian duo, Myon & Shane 54 will be leaving us with a torrential amount of emotions come Saturday afternoon when they prove to us that this summer really is the “Summer of Love”. These two truly are dance music sensations, having created a number of Beatport number ones, as well as some of the most memorable songs of today. Not only that, but MS54 have consistently been among the DJMag top 100 DJs in the world since their appearance as the first Hungarian DJs on the list back in 2009. In 2012 they aided in the production of the massively successful Seven Lions track featuring Tove Lo, “Strangers”, which was featured on the soundtrack for the film, Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. On top of that they host their own radio show entitled International Departures, they have created and are famous for a number of mash-ups, and have a tour diary to go along with their International Departures radio show entitled “International Departures TV”. In other words, there is not a lot these guys aren’t doing right now, and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you missed out on their flawless set come Saturday at Talking Stick Resort!

MYON & SHANE 54 WITH KYLER ENGLAND – SUMMER OF LOVE (RADIO EDIT)

Experience Savant Syndrome at Monarch (6/13   9:00pm)

If you were thinking of partying this weekend, the Monarch is the place to be. As famous Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa said, “In a mad world, only the mad are sane”, and I believe this was in reference to yet-to-be-born, Aleksander Vinter aka Savant. His mind is everywhere, his musical talents are all-encompassing, his style is outrageous, and his parties are absolutely the maddest thing you will experience this summer. As a child, Vinter was diagnosed with a series of mental conditions led by Aspergers Syndrome, but also ADHD and autism. However, along with these conditions came something called “Savant Syndrome” which allows for increased focus and aptitude in a particular skill. In other words, Savant had a weapon on his hands that he could use to become the mad king of total musical domination.

Savant claims that he has developed over 10,000 songs over a wide variety of genres, and this statement basically encapsulates who he is both in and out of the studio. Throughout his career he has created songs over 11 different albums and numerous singles from 8-bit videogame soundtracks, trap, disco, house, electro, classical, ‘90s big-beat electronica – even ‘70s glam rock and ‘80s new wave finds its way into his sonic odysseys, all the while performing in elaborate costumes that invite the feeling of renaissance showmanship. Vinter states, “I like how a group like Queen is very theatrical and harmonized. That epic feeling, plus the style of David Bowie, and the spunk of Prince – that’s what I’m going for, but via dance music”. Being labeled by Deadmau5 via twitter as, “the change EDM needs”, Vinter has created quite the name for himself. Don’t miss out on the most extravagant party of the summer right here in your backyard!

Lose Yourself to Bass at Bassrush Takeover (6/13   9:00pm)

The moment you’ve all been waiting for: BASSRUSH TAKEOVER ft. 12th Planet, LOUDPVCK, and Kove! Saturday night at the Pressroom will play host to three of the most bass-heavy genres in electoronic music: Dubstep, Trap, and Drum and Bass. The night will open up with DnB up-and-comer, Kove, taking to the decks to blow up the floor beneath our feet with his relentless snare and bass. Accumulating support from the likes of Andy C, Chase and Status, and many others, Kove is on the fast track to worldwide stardom. Building off of the success of his tracks “Iodine”, “Way We Are”, his Murmations EP, and his brand new single, “Hurts”, it doesn’t look like he will be slowing down anytime soon!

Following Kove is no easy feat, but if anyone can do it, it’s Trap superstar duo LOUDPVCK. Kenny Beats and Ryan Marks have made a name for themselves through a number of wildly popular remixes for tracks by the likes of massive DJs such as Blasterjaxx, Dada Life, Nervo, and A$AP Rocky. In addition, they have developed huge festival hits like their track “Wylin'” with Paper Diamond. Don’t miss it this weekend when they give a festival-quality performance at the Pressroom and blow the roof off of this fantastic venue. As Dada Life would say: “Prepare to arrive beautiful and leave ugly”. However, LOUDPVCK had better leave a bit of the building standing, because following them is the American king of Dubstep himself, 12th Planet!

John Dadzie brings his unique sound to the Pressroom last but absolutely as far as possible from least. This pioneer of Dubstep has an extraordinary show in store for all of you that is sure to leave you in a puddle of melted face. 12th Planet has the tendency to create memorable Dubstep classics and I don’t think that there is really anything he can do about that. It comes natural, and his mixing skills are just as quality. Having seemlessly converted from DnB to Dubstep, created his own record label, SMOG, and collaborated with chart-toppers like Skrillex, UZ, Omar Linx, and even Korn, Dadzie has proven that he has what it takes to deserve his title of America’s Dubstep King!

Check out the read on why you must attend The Bassrush Takeover!

I don’t know if you can hear the excitement in my typing voice, but this weekend is going to be off-the-walls crazy, supremely wild, and just… a riot… it’s gonna be an absolute riot! Get one last look in the mirror, because your face is never gonna be the same again.
