YetepEDM’s elite are all up for Grammy’s this year. Deadmau5, Kaskade, Skrillex, Steve Aoki, Calvin Harris. The headliner names go on and on.
A new category this year includes Best Remixed Recording (Non Classical) with nominees that you’ve surely heard in sets across the country. From Eric Prydz intense remix to M83’s ‘Midnight City’ to the seductive ‘Promises’ remix by Skrillex and Nero or ‘In my Mind’ remixed by Axwell, a KIA gerbil favorite. Tommy Trash also appears in the nominations with his remix of summer hit ‘The Veldt’, originally from Deadmau5.
Then comes the albums, ranging from the dual CD ‘Fire & Ice’ by Kaskade, featuring festival style songs and their cocktail lounge counterparts, to Deadmau5’s elemental ‘> Album Title Goes Here <‘. Steve Aoki received a nod as well for his club lifter album, ‘Wonderland’ alongside old school EDM duo Chemical Brothers for their album ‘Don’t Think’. Skrillex is also back to defend his Best Dance/Electronic Album title with his CD release ‘Bangerang’, with his signature mechanical, electro dubstep sound.
Now that I mention it, the title track for ‘Bangerang’, is up for the Best Dance Recording as well. This appears alongside the ever popular ‘Levels’ by Avicii, radio hit ‘Let’s Go’ from Calvin Harris and Ne-Yo, a sing-along of epic proportions in ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ from the retiring (at least in name) Swedish House Mafia trio. Zedd was surprisingly snubbed this year when Al Walser’s nomination for ‘I Can’t Live Without You’ apparently lifted a line from ‘Spectrum‘.

EDM gained considerable notoriety over the past few years in the states and considering the continuing opening up of the EDM categories in Grammy consideration, this will continue for years to come.
