YetepThis week is one of the most important weeks of Steve Aoki’s music career, as he debuted the second half of his double- album concept Neon Future II this past Tuesday. This album has been surrounded with a lot of hype succeeding Neon Future I, which included his catchy gold single and Top 40 Hit “Delirious” (Da da da da da!) and is stacked with big name talent ranging from Linkin Park to Snoop Lion to NERVO. In an interview with SPIN, Aoki wanted to express to his fans that “Putting out these two albums has been the biggest feat of my career and it’s going to take you into the future and beyond.” Excuse me while I have flash back memories of his Global Dance Festival 2014 set…
But that is not all for Aoki’s busy schedule this week… While most artists celebrate album releases by going to Vegas or Ibiza, Steve Aoki is showing his philanthropic side and putting on a free show to debut Neon Future II in downtown Los Angeles called LAoki. Over 7000 free tickets were claimed for the event in less than two hours, with the attendees having to sign up for Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti’s Volunteer Corps. You can read all about it here.
Finally, Steve Aoki is following in any prominent celebrities footsteps (I’m talking about you Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and T- Swift) and releasing a documentary about the blood, sweat, and tears that went into creating the Neon Future double album. The documentary will be titled “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” and will humanize the electronic music icon by showing Aoki’s emotion behind playing the biggest shows of his career and highlighting his complex, loving relationship he has with his father Rocky Aoki. (Fun Fact: Steve Aoki’s dad is the man behind Benihanas and a former Olympian!) Throw in Aoki’s squad of DJ friends and it is sure to be an exciting sneak peek into the fast paced life of a superstar DJ who plays 300 shows a year.
