Having released her first major track “Serenity” via Mau5trap earlier last year, REZZ has built quite the working relationship with Deadmau5; however, that did not stop her from exploring her options when she released her Insurrection EP on Skrillex‘s OWSLA a couple months later with a single release, “Negative”, shortly thereafter. But the truth of the matter is that strong working relationships never die. With that said, REZZ has returned to Mau5trap with her second EP, The Silence Is Deafening, and it is nothing short of just that.
The Silence Is Deafening sees REZZ tread new and familiar ground, and I am certainly not using the word familiar in a negative context. If you have read any of my previous articles on this quickly rising talent, you will know that I am as devoted a fan as any. The dark atmosphere that she creates with her tracks is simply astonishing and I honestly have a hard time thinking of anyone who even comes close to this sound (save for Gesaffelstein). And, to compliment the familiar, we get a few surprises from REZZ with this EP as well.
The most noteworthy track on the new EP is her collaboration (a first for REZZ) with Delaney Jane, a previous collaborator with artists like Adventure Club, Oliver Heldens, and Dzeko & Torres. The track, “Lost”, strays from REZZ’s norm by opening with vocals, something brand new to the producer’s haunting catalog. This is definitely the most accessible of REZZ’s tracks to date, maintaining her murderous trademark yet also providing a song that could certainly be heard on the radio-waves.
In addition to “Lost”, we get 3 more tracks that REZZ has been playing out to audiences for a number of months at festivals like TomorrowWorld, HARD Day of the Dead, and Decadence AZ. The first of the 3 and my personal favorite of the The Silence Is Deafening is her swelling and brutal track “Edge”. Following are “Methodology” and “Delusion”. You will notice a trend in her titles, a theme of hypnosis, which is one of her favorite parts about her music, as she stated in our interview with her last September.
If you missed REZZ at Decadence or have fallen in love with The Silence Is Deafening, act on this opportunity to catch the stunning producer and DJ play alongside names like Destructo and Justin Martin at their SHIP2SHIP Tour at Monarch Theatre on January 30th! You can also catch REZZ on Holy Ship! this February!
