DJ To Watch: Jackal

UK Trap star Mikey Pennington, famously known as Jackal is this week’s DJ To Watch. After his track “Shakedown” was remixed by LOUDPVCK to become one of 2013’s trap anthems, this artist has made a name for himself in trap music ever since, with tracks like “Chinchilla” wildly supported by fellow DJs across the festival circuit. With an arsenal of remixes, top tracks and guest mixes since his rise to fame, my favorite mix would easily be his episode on Dr. Fresch’s The Prescription, an hour long mix consisting of 30 minutes of tunes by the freshest Dr. alive, followed by 30 minutes by the featured artist. The mix gets extra lit at the end at about 25 minutes in when Dr. Fresch drops a remix of Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” to finish up, before Jackal jumps in the mix on episode 011. Jackal surely seems to be firing out the bombs lately; as a testament to that, his latest work released via Buygore Records this week will have your neighbors running for ear plugs when you turn up that bass. The kick is absolutely insane in the drop on Jackal’s latest single “Gunshot” featuring Jammin, and as a gift to all the trap fiends out there, this track is available as a free download. Lucky for us in Sunny Arizona, we can catch Mikey P. Friday night alongside Brillz, Diplo, FKi 1ST, RL Grime, Snakehips, Tchami and What So Not at Rawhide for Night 1 of Mad Decent Block Party.
