YetepEkali is a Canadian producer who’s been on the rise in recent years. He was the first Canadian producer to be accepted into the Red Bull Academy for Music in Tokyo, Japan in 2014. There he honed his unique bass sound. He’s done spectacular reworks of What So Not‘s “Gemini”, Flume‘s “Never Be Like You” and Flux Pavilion‘s “I Can’t Stop,” all boasting multiple millions of plays on SoundCloud. Most recently he released a single, “Akria”, in January that really bangs.
2017 is looking to be a good year for the young producer. Earlier this month he the first mix of his new mix series, Awakening. He uploaded the mix to his Soundcloud with this message, “Welcome to my new mix series, Awakening. This is my outlet to show you what tunes I’ve been listening to on the road, across the board from energetic music to more ethereal sounds. I’m challenging myself to mix all these tunes in creative and challenging ways… I hope you enjoy the result.”
He plays out tracks from Medasin, Troyboi, KRANE, Mr. Carmack and a future bass remix Snakehips and MØ‘s “Don’t Leave” that he just released this last week, so you already know the mix is going to be fire. So far it’s received a lot of positive feedback. Fans seem to be feeling the new sounds. Ekali intends to drop a new mix every three months so keep up with his social media.
Ekali has clearly been a busy guy lately, and not just making mixes. He took over the V.I.P. S.S. BUKU riverboat this past weekend, and he invades Phoenix Lights Festival on Saturday, April 8th. Get tickets here.
