YetepJayKode is the moniker of Joey Khodanian, a Los Angeles-based EDM producer who fuses classical-inspired melodies with bombastic trap, dubstep, and electro-house beats, dubbing his sound “classical bass.” He began studying piano at age seven before taking up guitar as a teenager, then interested in metal and hardcore. After getting into hip-hop and electronic music, he started developing his style of aggressive yet dreamy bass music.
He shared a biography on himself with the DJ list stating: “Ever since I was 13, I was experimenting with writing music. I started out with guitar (which I still play) and got into hardcore and metal, which will always be my roots. As I opened my ears a little more everyday and broadened my horizons, my love for electronic music grew day by day so I decided to give it a try. Maybe it might take me somewhere, maybe it might not. I just do it for the love of music.”
I think it’s safe to say that Joey’s love for music definitely took him somewhere, and I think his remix of The Chainsmokers‘ ‘NYC’ deserved it’s spot for Relentless Beat of the week. ‘NYC’ itself was a massive hit after it’s release, and Jaykode’s remix made it even better. It perfectly showcases his ‘classical bass’ style and maintains a future bass sound while straying from the stereotype of that genre.
