YetepCanadian producer Snails, born Frédérik Durand, is changing the game with his much-awaited debut album, The Shell, which was finally released this month. Snails has dropped plenty of successful singles since he emerged on the scene a few years ago, but this is his first full-length album and it’s about time, considering the producer has played some high-profile festivals, like EDC Las Vegas, Electric Forest, and Ultra Music Festival.
Snails is known as the pioneer of vomitstep, a unique sub-genre of EDM, featuring exactly what it sounds like: grimy, “gutteral bass gurgles,” that make you scrunch up your face. Only vomitstep can go that hard, and Snails does not hold back. The Shell stays true to the sub-genre, featuring song after song of nasty, head-banging bass, infused with a range of other sounds, coming together in a balanced, eclectic mix. Check out the album below.
In “Feel the Vibe,” Snails collaborated with Big Gigantic and Collie Buddz for a mashup of genres. The track showcases the best of both worlds: reggae and vomitstep, inspiring feel-good dance vibes. Snails also mashes up genres in the metal remix of his track “King is Back.” The song is a head-banger for sure, and will keep you on the lookout for the closest mosh pit.
You can catch Snails and many other artists this New Year’s Eve at Decadence AZ. Get your tickets and other info here.
