YetepCrankdat, born Christian Smith, dropped out of college to pursue a career in producing music, and it seems like it’s the best thing to have happened to him, and to anyone who listens to his music. With remixes that put a sick spin on any original track, absolutely lit live sets, and bangin’ new music, Crankdat is really killing it out here in the EDM industry. He first gained recognition for “re-cranking” songs like Fetty Wap‘s “Trap Queen.” His collab on “I Hold Still” with everyone’s favorite shark Jauz really launched him into the spotlight. But what really makes Crankdat special is the original tracks that he produces, like last month’s new single, “Reasons to Run.”
Crankdat’s live sets are typically trap-heavy, but “Reasons to Run” has a nice pop-rock sound with a downtempo beat. The intro to the song is a fun, buoyant tune that immediately puts a smile on your face with its catchy lyrics and upbeat vibes. It’s hard to place “Reasons to Run” in a particular genre, and that’s not a bad thing. Crankdat’s ability to combine genres is what makes him feel like the next Marshmello.
Crankdat throws down during his live sets, and it’s an experience you don’t want to miss. He’ll be killing it at this year’s Crush AZ on February 17. With a lineup including Crankdat, Getter, Grandtheft and more, do you really need another “reasons to run” to Rawhide Event Center? Get your tickets here!
