YetepCanadian masters of electro-funk, Chromeo, just released their fifth album, Head Over Heels, last month. That’s a long time coming since their genesis back in 2002. Made up of members David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel, Chromeo boasts a unique, but fun blend of styles, drawing from blues, dance music, rock, synth pop, disco, and funk.
This week’s Spin It Back Saturday goes back to 2004 with Chromeo’s “Needy Girl.” Check it out below.
“Needy Girl” became a worldwide club hit after its release on Chromeo’s debut album, She’s in Control. While the rest of the album didn’t receive the same success, this track stood out and was played by DJs all over the world. With a classic 80s funk vibe that draws from the sounds of Hall & Oates and Prince, “Needy Girl” set the tone for what Chromeo would deliver for years to come.
You can catch Chromeo for a funky set at the Pressroom in downtown Phoenix on August 31. Grab your tickets here.
