YetepBerlin-based producer Alexander Ridha, a.k.a. Boys Noize, first began gaining recognition back in 2004 with the International Deejay Gigolo Records 12” single “The Bomb!/Boy Neu.” In 2005, he launched his own label, Boysnoize Records, on which he released a pair of 12” singles (“Optic/He-Man” and “Volta 82”) along with work from the likes of John Starlight, Eastwest, I-Robots, and more. 2007 saw his full-length album debut, Oi Oi Oi, as well as several successful remixes of popular songs, including Feists’s “My Moon My Man,” Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus,” and Bloc Party’s “Banquet.” Such successful remixes helped popularize the Boys Noize brand and launch Ridha to where he is today. For today’s Spin it Back Saturday, check out “What You Want” below.
This week’s throwback comes from Ridha’s third album Out of the Black, released back in 2012. He began working on the album after two years of producing for artists like the Scissor Sisters and Santigold. “What You Want” combines old school hip-hop beats with 80’s-styled robot refrains for an upbeat track that puts the Beastie Boys to shame.
You can catch Boys Noize at the Pressroom on Saturday, November 3, alongside Destructo and Gerry Gonza. Grab your tickets here before they disappear!
