YetepSpotify has officially leveled up, thanks to their latest feature, which gives artists the freedom to upload directly to the platform themselves. Similar to SoundCloud’s format, artists can now upload their music, artwork, and any additional information themselves to Spotify, eliminating third-party fees and the need to go through a label to get their music heard. Unlike SoundCloud, the music won’t be available immediately, and artists will instead have to choose a release date. For now, artists have to be invited to the program, as it’s still in its early stages, but it’s likely this feature will be available to all artists soon.

For a long time, SoundCloud has been the only platform where up and coming artists can post and market their own music, and it has been successful for many. Artists like Lil Skies, Russ, Lil Peep, and Wifisfuneral were all launched into fame through SoundCloud. Now that Spotify is adding a similar feature, the music industry is about to expand with endless new talent, creating opportunity for many.
In an age where online presence is more important for an artist’s career than a PR company or a record deal, this feature is a game-changer for the music industry.
