DJ to Watch: Yakz

David Mitori, who goes by the moniker Yakz, is an up and coming producer in the world of dubstep and riddim. Based in LA, the artist got his feet wet as a vocalist in a Metal band for several years before he became enamored with the gritty, rhythmic sound designs he now produces himself.

He teamed up with SVDDEN DEATH for several hit releases, including “Rock Like This” and “Shut ‘Em Down” and released his heavy-hitting EP, “Yaktivate.” 2017 saw him support SVDDEN DEATH on his Shut ‘Em Down Tour and in 2018 he joined Somnium Sound for the Watch & Learn Tour.  If it’s not already clear, Yakz is a perfect candidate for this week’s DJ to Watch.

He’s released on Never Say Die’s Black Label, home to some of the heaviest slayers of dubstep, including Trampa, Subtronics, and Midnight Tyrannosaurus.

With his subversive sound that’s quickly making its way into the Spotify playlists of bassheads around the country, this producer has big things on the horizon.

Catch Yakz as takes the stage alongside Kai Wachi, Cromatik, and Midnight Tyrannosaurus at Gentle Ben’s in Tucson on May 24. He’ll be in Phoenix the next night at the Pressroom.
