YetepIt was around this time in 2018 that Canadian producer Jeff Abel AKA Excision dropped his fourth studio album Apex which included 14 tracks and some impressive features like Illenium, Dion Timmer, Space Laces and Sullivan King. Now fast forward a year, July 23rd to be exact and the bass god has returned with a revamped version that he’s titled Apex: The Remixes.
The LP delivered remixes from Black Tiger Sex Machine, Blunts & Blondes, Slander, Subtronics and more putting a whole new spin on hits like “Gold (Stupid Love),” “Where Are You,” “1 On 1” and “Vault.” Lucky for us, just a few hours ahead of the release, dubsteps own 12th Planet sneaked a preview of the LP, dropping his beefed up rendering of “Wake Up” featuring Sullivan King. Now that the wait is over you can officially throw your X’s up and take a listen to the remix pack below.
There’s no question that with Excision often comes utter chaos and sound that’s purely bloodthirsty and brutal but the release of last year’s Apex surprised us all with more a melodic sound. Some tracks featured a light, future bass tone and others showcased raw, emotional vocals. Now, he’s given Apex a second rush in what’s considered to be his most ambitious remix album yet and as any true veteran of dubstep would, he’s shared the limelight and included other rising artists in this promising project.
