YetepWax Motif is a quintessential artist in the g-house movement that’s been taking over our playlists and now the Australian DJ and producer is making his musical vision a reality. In early August, Wax Motif announced the launch of his label, Divided Souls Records, and then on August 28, he dropped the first song released by the label, “Divided Souls” featuring rapper Diddy. The song is a great introduction to the label and, in addition to being a house banger, Diddy’s lyrics parallel Wax Motif’s vision for the new label.
“Divided Souls” begins with a driving four-on-the-floor rhythm accompanied by classic house synths that play out a groovy g-house melody. Diddy’s iconic voice echoes through the intro, explaining how artists should be experimental with their music, all while the bass slowly builds up into the drop. As any Wax Motify song, “Divided Souls” has a perfect, energetic drop that will get any crowd off their feet. The song embodies everything Wax Motif is trying to achieve with his label and is a must-listen for house fanatics.
When asked about the significance of the song and label’s name in an interview, Wax Motif explains,
It was just that line that really stuck out. I feel like it says something about people in general, but also about myself and my music. I like rap — most people know that — and I like house music. I think a lot of people don’t see them in the same sphere, but I also think a lot of people like different genres now. There isn’t a kid out there that doesn’t like some DJ and Migos or whatever. The crossover is pretty strong, so it’s a reflection of that, not really feeling like it’s from one side of the coin or the other.
While there isn’t much information on the label now, we can’t wait to see Wax Motif’s vision come to life. If you want to stay connected, be sure to check out his social media accounts below for news about this new label.
You can catch Wax Motif at Dusk Music Festival this November. See the full lineup and grab tickets here.
