Above & Beyond Release Electric Cover of New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’

Sometimes a blast from the past is just what the doctor ordered to shake up the familiarity of the present. On this note, trance-producing trio Above & Beyond have finally released their cover of English rock band New Order’s 1980s hit “Blue Monday,” and the results are electrifying. The track was a funky, fresh and electronically inspiring indie-rock piece in its original prime, so it was no surprise that it caught the attention of Above & Beyond to be reworked into their own arsenal of artistic mixes. “Blue Monday” was an iconic hit that inspired a line of successful producers following its release, and Above and Beyond have been holding onto this remake for quite some time now. Staying true to the original track while upping the production and adding in Above & Beyond’s own signature flares, this full-throttle remake manages to recreate the classic riffs and drums using modern hardware, and even features vocals by the trio’s very own Jono Grant. Ethereal, contemplative, and beautiful to say the least, this cover certainly does not disappoint. Above & Beyond debuted the cover back in 2013 during their sold-out show at London’s Alexandra Palace, and the track has since been closely guarded and kept under wraps until its official release this month in the new decade.
