How Tomorrowland Brings the World Together

What is it that makes music festivals so invigorating, intoxicating, and inspiring? Yes, it might have something to do with the chest vibrating bass coming from the towering subwoofers, the masses of people and poor cell service that renders the pure escapism from reality. While we can walk into just about any venue and conjure these feelings, we can’t forget that all festivals are not created equal and most importantly, the bigger the better. Because bigger means more artists and more stages and more people and more opportunities for a well, life changing experience which no one admits but we are all looking for on some level. Only one festival that graces this planet proudly reps the nomer of “the largest festival in the world,” and that is Tomorrowland.

Located in the heart of sleepy town Boom, Belgium lies a gem. A scared and precious gem that does something miraculous. This gem of a music festival brings this divided, this “them against us” world we live in, and asks us “Live Today, Love Tomorrow, and Unite Forever.” As a former attendee I can vow that no 6 words better describe the experience. While the stages can span larger than some cities in Idaho and the layout better matches Disneyland than a festival venue, none of that compares to the feeling of being surrounded by nearly 200,000 people from ALL over the world. No matter where you are, you won’t see two of the same flags in your line of sight. Australia, Uganda, Peru, South Africa, Ireland and of course, the U.S., the whole world is under (and raising) the same roof to the likes of Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Armin Van Burren, Calvin Harris and Timmy Trumpet. Okay, quick dance break with the video below.

Okay, back to the important stuff! It’s incredibly humbling to meet your fellow music-loving brothers and sisters from all corners of earth. It’s a truly remarkable experience that only one entity to this degree bring to the music scene. Music in its pure MP3 form is one of the most unifying thing on this planet, and to take that to interpersonal level brings more opportunity, more joy and more light to you than you can ever image. Some call it a music festival, but I call it 3 days of personal growth.

If you decide to go, make sure you do it right! Get uncomfortable. By that I mean don’t do what feels ‘right’. Camp, approach stranger, pay it forward, join a new squad for the day and not because you lost yours. You get out of the three days what you put into it and the friends, connections and memories you can make with like-minded people from all over the world is endless.
