Fueled by an insatiable passion for music and unshakeable resolve, techno legend Nicole Moudaber forged an empire against all odds. From event promoter to DJ and producer, and record label founder to radio host, Nicole Moudaber’s multifaceted career is the result of her resilience and ceaseless pursuit of growth and evolution.
Born in Nigeria, Moudaber was raised in Lebanon during a period of political turmoil. At her first opportunity, she left the country’s restrictive regime to study social sciences in London, where she fell in love with the dizzying freedom and thrills nightlife had to offer; the dancefloor ignited Moudaber’s passion for music. Saturated with the pounding pulse of London’s nightlife, Moudaber returned to her hometown with a steely determination to recreate the dancefloor utopia she had experienced abroad. After a party in the fall of 1999 that led to her arrest and brief detention, Moudaber returned to London with her electrifying energy; for the next six years, she worked as an event promoter, connecting with hundreds of DJs. Towards the late 2000s she began gravitating towards DJing and producing; it wasn’t long until her skills garnered the attention of Carl Cox, who became her mentor and a lifelong friend.
A turning point in Moudaber’s career occurred in 2013 when her techno remix of Carl Cox’s drum and bass record “Chemistry” reigned at number one on the charts for three consecutive months, eventually leading to an IDMA award. Her first album, Believe, was released the same year on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode imprint, further launching her onto the global stage.
Moudaber launched her imprint MOOD with the release of her EP In the Mood in 2013 as well; she would then go on to create her own radio show, In The Mood, the following year. Though Moudaber’s accolades tend to recognize her for her techno productions, her In The Mood radio show vocalizes her defiance to being contained by one genre; her selections reach beyond techno to include house, deep tech, minimal, and electro. Her collaborators over the years include industry tastemakers ranging from Pan-Pot, Carl Craig, Jamie Jones, and Eats Everything, to name a few.
With her signature style of dark and smoldering, yet hypnotic and emotive techno, Nicole Moudaber has become one of the most established artists in dance music. When she’s not making musical magic in the studio or jet-setting to headline international festivals, Moudaber finds herself racing cars, participating in various philanthropic endeavors, and campaigning for social justice. Fiercely outspoken, Nicole Moudaber’s sincerity and earnestness has fostered a passionate dance community centered around emotional rawness and human connection.
Nicole Moudaber will be taking us to places we’ve only ever dreamt of at this year’s annual Decadence Arizona from December 30th-31st at Phoenix Raceway, along with Tinlicker, Walker & Royce, and more. Click here for more information!
