Wavey EDM drops are akin to the waves in the ocean, seamlessly moving people and contributing to the beautiful landscape of electronic music. I love how artists guide experiences with these wavey sounds, reveling in the fluidity and exceptional mixing of different sounds. Wavey tracks can take on various vibes—some light and playful, like those from Louis the Child’s earlier catalog, while others carry a weighty intensity, reminiscent of TVBOO and Mersiv’s creations. In this showcase, I want to spotlight five of my favorite heavier wavey songs to demonstrate that wavey EDM transcends the boundaries of future bass.
A prime example that seamlessly integrates wavey sounds on both the future bass and bassier spectrum. Ethereal chords set a peaceful tone at the start, leading to a drawn-out and beautifully extended buildup. Inzo’s signature sound warps around the listener just before the drop, which unfolds into a light, future bass composition with his signature accents. The second drop takes a beautiful turn, with bassy notes replacing the initial future bass elements, yet maintaining the wave-like structure. If you’re an Inzo lover, this song is tailor-made for you!
Securing the second spot on this list is a personal all-time favorite, epitomizing the bassier side of wave music. With an engaging melody from the start, the song maintains a chill vibe initially, building chords and introducing new sounds before the first drop. The drop is both heavy and wavey, inducing movement. The true wave sounds hit at the two-minute mark, transforming the melody into a dark wave as if someone is manipulating time and space. This song is a must-listen; it promises not to disappoint.
“Pray – Sam Lamar Remix” – Illenium, Kameron, Sam Lamar
“Pray” was already a banger, and Sam Lamar elevates it further with his signature wave-like style. Starting with the lyrics of “Pray,” Sam Lamar complements it with new sounds, gradually building up alongside the increasing emotional intensity of the lyrics. The drop, around the 1:30 mark, features subtle wavey sounds in the background, and when it hits, the waves become apparent. The distorted melody moves constantly, creating the illusion of waves breaking through the air. If you’re an Illenium fan, this song is a perfect fit.
“I Like It When You Move” by Mersiv
Mersiv, on the rise, continues to make his mark with the album Out of Bounds. The opening track delivers a bassy wavey experience that promises to shine in live settings. With a quick yet excellent buildup, the drop opens into a space bass with hints of wavey sounds. The progression and accents evoke a sense of waves, pulling you in and out, compelling you to move your body. If you enjoy space bass, this song is tailored for your taste.
“Hadouken (VIP)” by Zeds Dead
Closing this list is the legendary Zeds Dead with one of their most well-known songs. VIPs are trending, but back in 2015, they were a rare treat. The drop in this track features a continuous melody cascading in a wave-like fashion, accentuated by incredible accents that truly showcase the bass wave. If you ever get the chance to experience this song live, brace yourself for a wild ride.
