Remix Recall: ‘Counting’ – Hamdi (Sammy Virji Remix)

When Hamdi dropped “Counting” last year, it became an instant hit and helped spark the rise of a new generation of dubstep. It’s the kind of track that has taken over clubs, parties, and festivals too. For this week’s Remix Recall, we’re checking out a smashing remix of “Counting” done by none other than UKG and bassline king Sammy Virji.

Featuring the original pulsating buzz and Princess Superstar’s pop hook from Mason’s “Perfect,” Virji adds a wobbly and high-octane UKG spin to Hamdi’s “Counting.” The addition of the percussive and shuffled energetic rhythm alongside the twisting bassline makes this remix an even more addictive update to this already infectious tune.

Virji just got done with an amazing two days in Arizona, where he played two incredible sets at Darkstar and C.A.S.A in Tempe. Both sets were completely sold out and had major boiler room vibes. If you were fortunate enough to witness him during either of his performances, you are aware of how crazy the crowd gets as soon as this remix’s opening beat appears. He is without a doubt going to be one of the biggest DJs to lead us in 2024. His output of sound and energy is unmatched. Just last night, Virji and Chris Lake also teased a brand new collaboration at Sound in LA that is already setting both of their socials on fire. We cannot wait to hear more from this UKG master. Afterall, it’s Virji, isn’t it?
