For a DJ to achieve widespread recognition and secure consistent spots at major festivals, it’s not sufficient to solely produce exceptional music. They must cultivate a distinctive “style” and showcase it consistently across their body of work. This approach enables them to build an authentic fan base and facilitates continuous growth. Some DJs have the unique ability to imprint their unmistakable mark on any genre they delve into, showcasing exceptional production levels. Let’s delve into three artists renowned for their versatility: GRiZ, RL Grime, and Nghtmre, and explore a couple of their songs spanning different genres.
My all-time favorite artist, GRiZ, has demonstrated mastery across various genres like house, funk, ambient chill, bass house, and dubstep. Even during his current indefinite hiatus, I eagerly anticipate his return.
“Get Down” by GRiZ, Subsquabi, Manic Focus
An earlier gem by GRiZ, this bass house track seamlessly incorporates funky elements and showcases his prowess in arrangement. The drop, while initially simple, evolves with the introduction of a counter melody and additional bass elements, adding flair. A must-listen for house enthusiasts!
“Laser Fire” by GRiZ
A more recent addition to GRiZ’s repertoire, this track showcases his prowess in the bass world. Despite being a typical “dubstep” song, perfect for headbanging, GRiZ’s funk roots shine through in the chord progression and build-up. A treat for bass fans!

Undoubtedly the trap king, RL Grime showcases remarkable versatility. His latest album, divided into three parts exploring different genres, is a testament to his expansive range.
“Jewel” by RL Grime, ISOxo
A legendary trap collaboration, this heavy-hitting track exemplifies RL Grime’s dominance in the genre. ISOxo, a rising star in trap, adds to the intensity. Supported by notable artists like Illenium, this song is a bass enthusiast’s delight with two artfully crafted drops.
“Around Me” by RL Grime
RL Grime’s take on Stutter House, a growing genre, makes this track a house journey. With cascading melodies, intentional design choices, and crisp sounds, it’s a must-listen for house enthusiasts.

Nghtmre has consistently experimented with various genres, leaving his mark in the trap scene with a focus on vocal manipulation and soaring melodies. Yet, he can produce heavy tracks, like he done throughout his entire career.
“Frontlines” by Nghtmre, Zeds Dead
The first Nghtmre song I ever heard, this track boasts incredible vocals and an elevated drop with a glitchy yet beautiful melody. A timeless collaboration, perfect for melodic trap enthusiasts.
“Redlight VIP” by Nghtmre, ASAP Ferg
Closing this list is Nghtmre’s heaviest offering. Known for producing true rap songs with minimal EDM drops, this VIP version, accompanied by aggressive undertones and ASAP Ferg’s powerful vocals, delivers a distinct bass experience. A treat for bass lovers!
Lucky for us, Nghtmre will be playing at PHXLIGHTS: Supernova, which heads to the Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, AZ this March 29th and 30th. Get your tickets here!
