YetepIt’s been two years since one of dance music’s most influential artists has shared their magic. “Cheerleader” is Porter Robinson’s first solo release since 2021 and is the lead single off his much-anticipated third album.
Porter swiftly ushered in a new era at the beginning of this month by purging his Instagram page and immediately sharing that his third album was on the way. The first single off the album, “Cheerleader,” features and highlights Porter’s vocals over an electro-hyperpop punk soundscape. The release was accompanied by a playful and reflective music video directed by Hugh Mulhern, the 2023 UKMVA winner of Best New Director. It is quintessential Porter Robinson vibes: kawaii and cool.
Of the release, Porter shared:
“When I got back in the studio for ‘Cheerleader,’ I asked: what would be something that people could love with zero context—just instantaneous, universal, explosive connection? ‘Cheerleader’ is my take on bottling that feeling.”

While Porter has now admitted the album is fully done, he has yet to disclose the name or the release date. With the nature of the emo-hyperpop bliss of “Cheerleader,” we can expect to see and hear an entirely new side of this multifaceted musical genius.
