YetepDom Dolla is for the “girl$!” Grammy-nominated Australian DJ, producer, and songwriter Dom Dolla has just released one of the most highly anticipated dance tracks of the year. If you’ve been able to catch any of his sets or social media posts as of late, you know which one it is! “girl$” is out now via Three Six Zero Recordings, Ministry Of Sound UK, and Sony Music ANZ.
Let’s dance like 1992! “girl$” is a powerful and evocative house track that skillfully blends empowerment with a tinge of playfulness and a little mischief. With over 46 million views across fan videos, the chorus shout, “Girls don’t need nobody,” has caused festival goers to scream-sing along in unison at some of the world’s largest music festivals. There is no better feeling than being in a crowd when a track like this plays, causing like-minded people to fully immerse themselves in the pure joy and sound of the music.
Dom shares about the record:
“girl$ was inspired by a conversation I had with a bunch of friends who were all tired of bad dates… and had eventually come to the conclusion they were giving up on the whole charade. In ‘24 we have so much choice. Nobody is limited by who they want to love or spend time with… whether that’s a guy, girl, or even just relish in their own company.”
He adds:
“I wrote the lyrics based upon a story a friend relayed to me about a wild night out she had. I recorded it and heavily affected my vocals, but felt it needed a strong female performance, so I reached out to my good pal Caitlin Stubbs and asked if she was keen to re-perform the vocal, her voice is fantastic and suits the record so well. I even left some crumbs of my vocal in there too. I hope you all enjoy the record as much as I enjoyed making it.”
