Dubstep heavyweight Riot Ten returns to Monstercat Uncaged today with gritty bass record, “Tear It Down (feat. Bok Nero),” arriving as the second single from his forthcoming Feral EP.
From crafting sensations such as “Rail Breaker (feat. Rico Act)” and “Fuck It” with Sullivan King, and going viral on TikTok amassing 5.6MM and 3.1MM views on each video, Riot Ten is notable for moving the needle in the bass scene. The El-Paso based DJ and producer has commanded crowds at venues and festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC (Las Vegas, Mexico, & China), Lost Lands, Goldrush Music Festival, Hollywood Palladium, San Jose Civic, and others. Beyond his momentous solo records, he’s collaborated with artists including Jessica Audiffred, SAYMYNAME, Black Tiger Sex Machine, Crankdat, and has been supported by the likes of tastemakers such as Excision, Subtronics, Zeds Dead, DIESEL, NGHTMRE, and others.
Riot Ten and Bok Nero have a strong history with over five collaborations under their belt. Their newest creation is no exception to the powerful synergy they’ve built over the years. “Tear It Down” brings out Riot Ten’s old-school heaviness, but with a darker, grittier twist, while Bok Nero continues to bridge hip-hop and electronic music with his vocals. When asked about collaborating with Bok Nero, Riot Ten had this to say:
“Bok & I go way back. I think we’ve had about 5 or 6 records together now and they go off every time. “Tear It Down” is no different – a big one for the mosh pits! Expect to hear this in my sets for the foreseeable future.”
-Riot Ten
“Tear It Down” is a massive track in scale and sound that encourages live raging, mosh pits, and LOTS of head banging. The track begins with crunchy drum claps, reverberating bass, and galactic synths. An incredible mix of vibes to get us going right out of the gate.
“If you lit, make a pit in the crowd. Fuck the club up, tear this bitch down,” raps Bok Nero, as his flow cascades and dances with the intensifying musical elements. The claps evolve into full-bodied percussion hits, working in tandem with chunky laser-like bass to get us excited for the first drop. “Fuck the club up, tear this bitch down” leads us into a heavy and wonky drop teaser that will likely throw off even the most veteran ravers. The drums pick up speed, as Riot Ten supercharges the metaphorical bass cannon with a cybernetic sweeping effect. At this point, the drop hits with full force! Creating a steady and pleasant head banging sensation throughout. The drum effects keep the beat, accompanied by fuzzy bass spirals and beautifully malevolent synth patterns. This drop goes into uncharted territory around the 0:52 second mark. Implementing a sound effect akin to racking up an excessive amount of points in pinball or an intense video game. This effect creates a perfect bridge between the two halves of the initial drop.
The second half of the drop increases in heaviness, as chanting vocal samples reflect the Rager-centric philosophy of this track. Ferocious drums plamp along, as the drop continues to show off Riot-Ten’s distinct heaviness. Glistening, melodic undertones bring us out of the first drop. Ominous ticking, icy synth effects and a consistent drum barrage build up to the second drop. Bok Nero returns with the line “We came here to fuck shit up and tear this bitch..” as the second drop begins. This drop is well-layered and perfectly executed. The sonic equivalent of an enormous robot marching through the desert streets of Phoenix. This drop maintains a consistent wonk, as a menacing energy beam of sound slowly radiates throughout the second half. I am SPEECHLESS. This small detail is my favorite part of the song and will keep me coming back for years to come. Great job, lads!
“Tear It Down” suddenly slams on the brakes. The familiar ticking and synths keep things going, as a subtle chopping effect can be heard in the background. Woahh. Bok Nero returns in the next drop buildup, as shimmering stardust falls from the sky. The bass cannon and energy beam reload and launches us into the final drop. “Tear It Down” then gradually fades out after thoroughly blowing my mind. WOW!
Bok Nero is a perfect hype man throughout “Tear It Down.” His inclusion on this track is a key creative decision that matches the vibe of the instrumentals. His deep flow and cadence complement the track very well. The collaborators know when to take center-stage and when to help the other shine with hype and encouragement. Creating a track JAM-PACKED with hidden gems, amazing transitions, and HYPE. Thank you to Riot Ten, Bok Nero, and Monstercat for the incredible tune.
