ALLEYCVT x Levity Collaborate On Massive Deadbeats Release, ‘One For You’

Wonky Chicago-based trio Levity (John Hauldren, PJ Carberry, Josh Tatum) and Los Angeles dubstep priestess ALLEYCVT are currently making MAJOR splashes in the EDM sphere. Both acts just performed at the famed Electric Forest festival, thoroughly blowing away the crowd on both occasions. They also performed at PHXLIGHTS: SUPERNOVA earlier this year, with ALLEYCVT coming on stage during Levity’s set for a LIVE teaser of “One For You.” A bit of a B4B if you will. She also performed her own set shortly after. These performances were incredible and the vibes in the crowd were beyond immaculate! The MASSIVE stage and sound production made these performances a sight to behold (and hear.) Levity and ALLEYCVT are two of my top artists, so the anticipation for this drop was quite high. This track has been teased in numerous ALLEYCVT sets. However, I was initially unaware of Levity’s involvement. Discovering that they were joining ALLEYCVT on this one made me even more excited for its release. I have been playing “One For You” on repeat since release day. Noticing new elements on nearly every listen. The song features the talents of both collaborators. Playing to their strengths and switching between their styles with ease.

The cover art of “One For You” reminds me of the animation style of Tom and Jerry. Mixing this vibe with the artists’ individual personalities. I am a massive Tom and Jerry fan and LIVE for this single cover. ALLEYCVT is depicted as a menacing cat complete with a smiley face sticker, “AC” collar, and ALLEYCVT’s signature winged eye makeup. She is chasing a pair of mice with her tongue out, drooling in anticipation of her rodent snacks. These mice are running for their lives. Attempting their escape through a hole on the floor. Chairs and a precariously placed glass of water and flower pot have (presumingly) been knocked over in the fray. A third mouse can be seen on top of the table, kicking an anvil off it with glee. The anvil is headed right for the head of ALLEYCVT’s cartoon, feline avatar. The official YouTube visualizer uploaded by Deadbeats features a more animated version of the cover. The mice are cartoon versions of each Levity member. Based on Instagram photos, my educated guess is that John is the mouse on the table, while PJ and Josh are the mice sprinting away from a hungry ALLEYCVT. John’s signature look features a bandana under a hat, just like the mouse on the table. This cover art exudes creativity and is just as incredible as the song that it represents.

“One For You” begins with a shimmering tone that mimics the cadence of the phrase “one for you.” A genius and effective creative decision that helps the song stand out even more! Sweeping strings and atmospheric undertones can be heard as well. The loop continues to shine as ALLEYCVT’s patented vocals come into frame:

“I could be the one for you, one for you. If you asked, if you asked me to. I could be the one for you. I could be the one for you.” Heavy, electronic organ notes provide a haunting foundation for the vocals, as the bright “one for you” tone continues to dance in the background. ALLEYCVT’s vocals provide an excellent balance between these two elements. These organ notes transform into a wave of bass that bring us to the pre drop. Subtle wonks bring forth rapidly accelerating drums. The first drop is very ALLEYCVT oriented with Rising bass walls, chunky wubs, and fluttering spirals. The wubs then mutate and splatter before returning to their original state. Steady drums keep up the beat as the other elements twist and shift around them. ALLEYCVT’s vocals are then distorted to match the beat. Plampy drums and cybernetic crashes rage over majestic synths as we enter the second pre drop.

A robotic vocal sample then accompanies ALLEYCVT to announce: “You will now experience ALLEYCVT, LEVITY” as blaring bass plunges into a wonky groove fest that constantly shifts in tone. This is the point in “One For You” where the styles of the collaborators mesh together the most. dizzying wobbles are a perfect companion for ALLEYCVT’s cosmic bass rays and soaring vocals. “Give it to me like.. like.. like.. like.. like.. this.” Occasional shots from the bass cannon provide a pleasant bridge between the spiraling instrumentals. A brief, fuzzy loop and chirping lasers close out “One For You.”

This collaboration between Levity and ALLEYCVT is one of my favorite releases of the year. A standout track that is sure to be towards the top of my Replay List for 2024. Both artists are evolving in an amazing way! They continue to grow their respective fanbases while touring extensively. Often accompanying each other during live performances of “One For You.” Levity and ALLEYCVT are constantly expanding their artistic vision as they get more exposure and grow their following.
