March 2025 Artist Spotlight: Ghost In Real Life (GIRL)

Ghost In Real Life is a dynamic, guitar-wielding producer best known for fusing genres of rock and EDM together in well-layered tracks. Her rock influences include metal, punk, and emo/metalcore. On the EDM side, GIRL mainly covers DnB, but sprinkles in dubstep, and house as well. She has flipped several popular songs, including a high-octane DnB interpretation of Dear Maria, Count Me In by All Time Low. Ghost In Real Life has produced tracks for labels including Excision‘s own SUBSIDIA. Her immersive social media presence gives fans a behind the scenes look at the production and touring process. Showing off her fun vibe and bubbly personality. Her love of rock genres shines through in her production style and aesthetic, joined by plenty of wubs and wonks.

I share many of the same influences as Ghost In Real Life and LOVE what she is doing. I saw her rocking a NOFX shirt in one of her Instagram videos and HAD TO dive into her discography. I am very happy that I did and am excited to share her music with you. PUNK RAVERS FOR THE WIN.

“Prepare for War” (a collaboration with Rebel Scum) is one of the most unique DnB influenced songs that I have ever heard. The track begins with a low rumble and gradually unfolds into a MASSIVE wall of sound. Frequencies stretch, roll and reverberate out of the DnB backing beat. Keeping a consistent rumble and mesmerizing the listener. “Prepare for War” briefly quiets down around the 1:40 mark.. with breakneck drum fills picking things up. GIRL shouts a unifying battle speech, protected on all sides by the INSANE drum effects. The song switches gears again. This time, changing into a clap-heavy verse with SICK guitar riffs, and euphoric EDM notes. A perfect representations of GIRL’s influences. Rainbows clash (and blend) with the shadows. Achieving balance.

The next drop begins with a barrage of shooting stars that fall to earth, rising as trippy frequencies. Seriously upping the tempo and intensity. Balanced by ticks and riffs, while keeping to the DnB vibe for the rest of the runtime. GIRL’s vocals keep up with the song’s shifting changes and her guitar riffs. Unifying (and commanding) an army with her powerful lyrics and battle cry. Rebel Scum matches GIRL’s vibes and adds his own expansive twist to the production. Both collaborates share an affinity for heavy, stretchy frequencies and ear-shattering drums. Their combined efforts result in an amazing track.

“Stuck In Purgatory” was the first song that I heard by GIRL. It fascinated me from the start, making an incredible first impression. The multiple layers (and tones) of guitar drew me in, while the song’s inventive drops keep me coming back. The effortless switch between sharp-edged bass waves and squeaky rolls shows GIRL’s skills at work. The riffs return in a haze. Descending down until met with layers of plampy drums and bass. The second drop adds an extra layer of brain massage to the mix and helps conclude the track. “Stuck In Purgatory” fades out with subtle taps and riffs.

The instrumentals are not the only place this track shines, though. GIRL’s vocals act as a guiding candlelight. Leading (and comforting) the listener through the ever-shifting environment around them. I am a big fan of Ghost In Real Life’s quiet delivery style in this one. Her range between the two tracks covered in this article is truly impressive Her eye for detail and involvement in every step of the production process shows in every track.
