Steller x Zingara Team Up for Wubtastic New EP, ‘Is This Real?’

Steller and Zingara are a dynamic duo who have collaborated on multiple releases including “Find It In Your Mind” and “Rhythm of Life (ft. Maurice Brown)” They continue this trend with their newest drop, the Is This Real? EP. This EP features two new tricks and an incredible VIP remix of “Find It In Your Mind.” This remix was played at Steller’s Sunbar show here in Tempe and was an instant crowd favorite. The VIP cut features whistling wubs and lots of tonal shifts from the original. A welcomed twist on an already solid release.

Is This Real? also features a title track of the same name and a second new release, “Better Believe It.” The title track features surreal samples, including a scene from the 2001 adult animated film, Waking Life. Elements gradually build under the sample, beginning with a pleasant echoing haze and starry clicks. Prominent BWAMPs chop up the samples as the track picks up steam. Drum effects mimic the clicks, bringing us in into the first drop. Launching the listener down a kaleidoscopic path with detours through dark tunnels. These tunnels are engulfed in low-ended wubs and rolling bass waves. Expanding and contracting at this duo’s will. Fading back into the hook and sample to wrap up the track.

“Better Believe It” gets going right out of the gate. Welcoming the listener into a tropical paradise courtesy of Steller. Steller’s South Florida origins play a prominent role in her sound and further diversify her skillset. These notes are blended with Zingara’s mix of heavy and cerebral instrumentals. Creating an effective and hard hitting track. The samples are on point once again, expanding on the song’s title and themes.

The “Find In Your Mind VIP” throws in new instrumentals and samples while still keeping the same edge as the original. Plampy drums and grunting bass bars flow into soaring highs and glitchy lows. The tempo and tone changes are out of the world on this one. Creating a vivid color pallet of wubs and vibes. Starting and stopping and back again. This VIP edition does everything right and then some, showcasing the vast capabilities of Steller and Zingara. My personal favorite track section (1:07-1:20) gives me chills and is the best VIP alteration of the song and a highlight of this EP. This EP rings true to the style of both collaborators, while also taking their sound design to places previously unexplored. Taking you on a journey that I highly recommend.
