The VIP Experience: Elevating Your Favorite Tracks to Uncharted Heights

What sets a remix apart from a VIP? This question frequently comes my way, and I’m here to clarify the distinction! While these terms are often used interchangeably, the technical definition of a remix involves an artist who didn’t contribute to the original track providing a unique twist. On the other hand, a VIP (Variation in Production) is a unique reinterpretation of a song by an artist who was involved in its creation. Both are remarkable, offering an exciting take on a track. Subtronics, arguably the VIP king, frequently adds his signature touch to songs even before their official release. This trend has caught on, with artists like Wooli following suit. Let’s explore five of my favorite VIPs and how they differ from the originals!

“Sun Models VIP” by ODESZA, Madelyn Grant

Take “Sun Models” by ODESZA, a fantastic song with a beautifully constructed arrangement and a chill, relaxing vibe. ODESZA took it up a notch with their VIP. While the first drop remains similar, the second verse and buildup bring a more bass-heavy feel, heightening anticipation for the subsequent drop. The second drop is a revelation, featuring a hybrid melodic house and bass house mix that gets everyone jumping. This VIP has become a staple in their sets, consistently delivering a powerful impact.

“Next Level VIP” by IVORY

IVORY’s “Next Level” was already a well-received dubstep track, offering a fresh take with its heavy, aggressive sounds. The VIP, however, elevates it to new heights. Still rooted in dubstep, the drop is intensified with fast, cascading sharp sounds that transport you to headbanger heaven. The second drop introduces insane growls over an incredibly heavy dubstep beat. If you’re a bass enthusiast and haven’t given this VIP a listen, it’s a must for your playlist!

“Brain Sludge VIP” by Midnight Tyrannosaurus

Midnight Tyrannosaurus, known for his grimey dubstep, unleashed “Brain Sludge” with a mix of chill and heavy drops. The VIP takes every aspect up a notch, especially the predrop before the heaviest section, hitting you with bass like a truck. The song showcases incredible sound design, transitioning from chill melodic elements to grimey bass notes that will leave your face melted.

“Scream Saver VIP” by Subtronics

Subtronics, the VIP maestro, earns a spot on the list with his most iconic song, “Scream Saver.” This track put him on the map with its unique sound design featuring high-pitched sounds cascading rapidly. The VIP’s buildup is intense, elongating the twills of the high-pitched signature sound, and the drop offers a distinct flavor while maintaining the original theme. With the drop cascading both up and down, this VIP is a treat for bass lovers worldwide.

“Wobble Masters VIP” by Ganja White Night

Closing the list is the bass powerhouse Ganja White Night. The VIP maintains the deep bass drop theme from the original but deepens it, taking you on a bass-infused journey. What truly sets this VIP apart is its house drop, revealing the groovy side of Ganja White Night. Overall, this song is a diverse experience that will captivate you with its variety. I hope you enjoy the ride!
