Greatest Album by Album: Big Gigantic’s ‘Brighter Future 2’

Albums are a labor of love and offer a glimpse into an artist’s universe where they create entirely new worlds. With a full-length album, an artist can truly flex their creative muscles, crafting a more cohesive piece compared to a single or an EP. Because of that, an EDM album is often dynamic, exploring different facets of an artist’s style beyond just their primary genre.

Welcome to “The Greatest Album by Album” series, where we dive into albums that I believe belong in the top echelon of the industry.

Big Gigantic – Brighter Future 2 – Released in 2022

Big Gigantic are staples in the electronic community. Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken have graced festival stages across the country since 2009, continuing their domination to this very day. They are among the artists leading the charge in creating works of art that defy genre boundaries, with a discography that spans funk, bass, dubstep, and everything in between. Their live performances are dynamic, showcasing their musical talent on drums and saxophone, making them a must-see at festivals.

In 2022, they blessed the world with Bright Future 2, the sequel to their original Bright Future album from 2016. This album showcases the essence of Big Gigantic, with songs featuring beautiful melodies, future bass tracks, and heavy bass and dubstep. The album kicks off with “Future’s All I See,” a future bass-dubstep hybrid that hits hard. My personal favorite is their collaboration with GRiZ, “Open Your Mind,” a powerful dubstep track that truly energizes any crowd. House tracks like “Keep on Rising” and “Renegade” add groovy, fun elements to the mix. The album closes with the beautiful “Love Unlimited,” highlighted by a live saxophone recording that gives off a jazz vibe, piercing the listener’s emotions and ending on the highest of notes.

Big Gigantic’s fusion of genres is unique, and every track they produce showcases a high level of artistry. There’s a reason why they’ve been headliners for so long, and you can hear it in every album they release. With such range, it’s incredible to experience their take on different genres, and this album is just the beginning!
