YetepEmoh Instead of What So Not, formerly consisting Flume as well, gave fans a very special treat during his set for triple j’s Mix Up Exclusives by debuting another track off of the upcoming Gemini EP. This upcoming EP is the final piece of collaborative work between Emoh Instead and Flume, so this track is kind of a landmark in the history of the group. As you would expect from any What So Not track, “Oddity” sounds impressively experimental, but with that same trap essence that they are so well known for. However, like any track should, it distinguishes itself and brings something new to the table by incorporating a mix of water-like sounds with the synths, all the while making sure that the bass is never absent. Stream the mix and listen to the track HERE, unfortunately there is no Soundcloud link yet, so check out the title track off of Gemini below:
Also featured in the mix are the title track of the Gemini EP which features George Maple on vocals, as well as the What So Not tracks “Tell Me” and “Touched”. Aside from his own music, we get to hear some Kendrick Lamar, Major Lazer, Jon Hopkins, and RL Grime. To introduce his mix, Emoh Instead states: “I know you’ve been waiting. Hopefully this mix can tide you over and if not, I’ll see you on the tour”. You can catch Emoh on tour when What So Not makes their way on to the stage at Mad Decent Block Party in September alongside Major Lazer, Thomas Jack, and recently announced Dillon Francis and Post Malone. In the meantime, in celebration of EDC Week, check out What So Not’s performance at the Cosmic Meadows stage for EDC Las Vegas 2014 where I was standing front and center loving every bit of the moment.
