As a master curator, Mija’s picked up some incredibly talented names for her Fk A Genre tour this fall. Touting talents such as Golf Clap, Kill The Noise, Ducky, Teklife, and so many more, she brings diverse lineups to cities all over the country bringing dance music fans from all over the spectrum together. This week, Mija brings her Fk A Genre stylings home to the Pressroom and the lineup is just as special. On Thanksgiving Eve, Jack Beats, Ardalan, Rob Garza (of Thievery Corporation), Nosaj Thing, and Durante will be taking the stage at the Pressroom, each one boasting a unique and beautiful sound different from the next.
One of those unique and beautiful sets will be played by young LA producer Durante. Getting his start as an OWSLA intern, Durante quickly developed a strong sense of self in his own music, branching off into his production work and eventually releasing music off of OWSLA’s online label, Nest HQ. Listening to any of his mixes or productions, it doesn’t take long to see that he’s got one of the most open-minded, creative brains out there.
In his recent mix for LAMP (Los Angeles Music Project), Durante opens up the hour-long mix by sampling a recording of a string quartet taken from a concert. His ability to take the most odd sound, that some might even write-off as insignifcant and turn it into his own master piece is just one of the many reasons to lose yourself in Durante’s music and fall completely head-over-heels in love with it. In an earlier mix for LAMP, he uses a similar technique, sampling from his own work on piano and somehow heading into an hour of grooving house and techno. None of his mixes sound like the next and all of his individual productions seem to have their own unique storyline, each one being drawn out from a completely different source of inspiration each time. Durante is somewhat of a blue moon of artists, rare, but still beautifully inspiring. Better tie your hearts down, because when Durante takes the stage at Fk A Genre on Wednesday at the Pressroom, your heart will soar.
