YetepAfter month’s of speculation, Insomniac has finally announced the first phase of North America’s biggest EDM festival. Last year, Electric Daisy Carnival’s wildly successful move from Los Angeles’ Coliseum to Las Vegas’ Motor Speedway attracted nearly a quarter million attendees and featured dance music’s biggest acts over a three day weekend. This year is going to be even bigger.
This morning, the news finally came from the unlikely source MTV News. The venerable music channel published a video this morning from Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella that outlined the first phase of artists for the company’s crown jewel festival hitting Sin City June 8-10. Tiësto, Avicii, Above and Beyond, David Guetta and Steve Angelo are returning for a second appearance in Vegas and they’ll be joined by Afrojack, Kaskade, Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris and Chase & Status plus many, many more. With an expected crowd of over 300,000 it’s crazy to think that nearly 20 years ago, EDC started out as a modest event for Insomniac.
“It’s about the whole experience,” Rotella told MTV News on Wednesday. “We are not a concert. We are so much more than that — it’s about the production, it’s about the art. The music being played is the soundtrack to your experience for the evening. I’ll have over 500 theatrical performers, over 30 carnival rides, hundreds of EDM acts, large-scale art installations, tons of special effects, massive enough fireworks to rival the Olympics … plus much, much, more.”
As anyone who has been to EDC in the past few years will know, “much, much, more” will likely be an understatement.
