A giant LED wall illuminated The Venue of Scottsdale as the Scream Bus Tour kicked off last Friday with Coldharbour Recordings KhoMa. As someone who appreciates her ability to see, I decided it was best to move a few feet away from the stage. Once I settled in, I realized I was in a for more than just a DJ set. The lights were truly their own show. The sound enveloped the crowd. The mixture of KhoMa’s visuals and avant-garde take on trance set the tone for the entire show.
When KhoMa finished, The M Machine attacked the crowd with their signature ‘M’ visuals and rattling bass. A complete paradox from KhoMa and Markus Schulz, The M Machine held their own playing track after track from their newest EP, Metropolis Pt. II. They kept the energy consistent throughout their entire set. To my surprise, fans stomped along to each song.
During The M Machine’s set, I snuck away to chat with the man behind the Scream Bus Tour, Markus Schulz. “The lights are intense out there,” I said. “Good,” he quickly responded. “This tour is all about the visual show,” he continued, “that’s why I wanted to bring The M Machine. I wanted someone with an LED show.”
Before I sat down with Schulz, he was doing a meet and greet with three Arizona fans. His fans were completely mesmerized by his easy demeanor and friendly disposition. He was asked about his upcoming project with Ferry Corsten called New World Punx. Schulz explained how the name was created from Corsten’s single, “Punk” and his single, “The New World”. He passionately described how exciting it was to play alongside Corsten when the occasion presented itself, so why not collaborate on a bigger project. Fans can expect new New World Punx tracks this fall.
Before Schulz went on stage he nervously explained that he loved playing in Arizona because “it’s an opportunity to play for fans, my closest friends and family.”
The time finally arrived. Markus Schulz hit the decks and gave his fans a unique experience of lights and trance. He seamlessly combined songs from his newest album Scream and his classics. The Scream Bus Tour delivered on its promise of high production value and incredible music.
