YetepThis weekend the blogospere erupted when a rumor that Dillon Francis would be crafting an R&B album for his sophomore release emerged. However, within 24 hours Francis took to snapchat to squash the gossip. He began by stating that at this point in time he has no idea what he is going to do with his second album, and followed that up with, “if anything, it will sound like my song with Kygo”.
The whole ordeal came to light during an interview with MTV, where Dillon was discussing how he is deeply inspired by the Drake track, “Wednesday Night Interlude”. He dished that he listens to the track at least ten times a day and that in the future he is “going to make a bunch of Dillon Francis slash R&B songs.”
So it is clear how this statement could have been misconstrued; however, he never firmly stated that he would be making an R&B album. In another snapchat posted by Francis a few minutes following the first, he tells his viewership “if any of those blogs actually listened to that song I credited [Wednesday Night Interlude], it sounds like a Flume song.” He then confesses his deep admiration for Flume and how he is his biggest inspiration when it comes to his musical sound.
Dillon Francis’ debut album, “Money Sucks, Friends Rule” was released on October 27, 2014 and can be heard on Spotify, iTunes, and Soundcloud. It is not clear when a second album will be released or what exactly it will sound like. If Dillon has anything to say about it we can expect to hear some Kygo/Flume-inspired tracks. Dillon just wrapped up his show here in Tempe last weekend at Wet Electric, but don’t miss his biggest inspiration, Flume, at the Pressroom in Phoenix on June 18th. Tickets are limited!
