YetepFor those of you lucky enough to make it to Coachella these past two weekends and lucky enough to wiggle yourself into the packed Sahara tent late on Night 2, you were fortunate to experience an RL Grime set featuring a brand new track from the trap producer: “Aurora.”
After bringing his remix of The Weeknd’s “The Hills” 7 months ago, it was clear that RL Grime was going a slightly different direction from the powerful trap bangers he had been producing to something a bit more melodic and meaningful. He further develops this sound in “Aurora” – a much more ethereal and emotional sound but still with the dramatic build up and epic release. He forgoes the classic trap beat for bit and opts for an angry drum kit instead and it’s almost refreshing to hear something a bit unexpected. He throws in some ticking sounds later on (a nod to his other persona Clockwork perhaps?) and brings back the trap beats later on to make “Aurora” a journey from start to finish.
Listen to the track below:
RL Grime (born Henry Steinway) is a standout trap and bass music producer from LA. Chances are you know him from that amazing drop from “Core” or his track “Tell Me” produced with Australian producer What So Not. He headlined Global Dance Fest right here in AZ last November, but if weren’t able to make yourself out to Rawhide you can catch him at Surrender this summer in Las Vegas or perhaps at Hard Red Rocks out in Colorado.
