Mixed with hip-hop vibes, good vocals, and sick beats this is a duo you need to know. Hippie Sabotage is “just two brothers who make music,” and they haven’t missed a beat. Just ending their first headlining tour in mid may, they are back at it again with not one, but three new flip releases this month.
Jeff and Kevin (Hippie Sabotage) are Sacramento natives. The two brothers began their musical journey in mid 2000’s, but it was not an easy one. They expressed to the fans at their recent show in Phoenix that they have worked so hard for this moment. Jeff and Kevin said before they “made it” they were financially struggling. They even lived and produced their music in their car! They spent years producing with little acknowledgment, until spring 2014. Ellie Goulding posted Hippie Sabotage’s “Habits” remix on Instagram with this song hitting over a million hits. That is where the two brothers’ exciting journey began.
Since finishing up their debut tour they have released three brand new songs within the last month. An interesting bit to note is that in each track Hippie Sabotage seems to play the song backward. Take a listen…
The first flip they released is “Immortal.” A beautiful, elegant voice assists Hippie Sabotage’s dirty drops. Approximately at 3:03, it seems as if the song is over. Then, if you listen closely, you can hear what sounds like a tape recording going backwards.
The next flip is “High Enough.” This flip is a completely different than the original song. Hippie Sabotage edited this song to give it those signature intense deep sounding drops, and that deep vocal. At approximately 2:03, the song once more seems like it will be over, but it’s not!
Lastly, the newest release of Hippie Sabotage, “Straight to My Head.” This track was the hardest for me to find that flip, but I figured there is a trend thus far, so I must try. The closest I could find to the trend is from 2:24-2:34, if you listen closely it sounds as if the song plays backwards.
If you do not see the flip side of things, that’s alright. At least you got to listen to Hippie Sabotage’s great, new releases!
