YetepNew York DJ and producer Cody Codes, known more commonly by his simpler moniker Codes, has been developing his fresh, innovative sound for years, but only recently has he begun making serious waves in the industry. With his ingenious sample manipulation, palpable energy during live sets, and a style that leans toward funk, Codes has rightfully earned his position as this week’s DJ to Watch.
Codes released his Bumps EP back in 2016, which received massive support from Spotify, where he was featured on different Spotify-generated playlists. The EP continues to climb, now with over 2 million streams.
In 2017, he released his SOS EP, which charted on the Beatport Top 10 House Releases, and received recognition from A-Track, AC Slater, Walker & Royce, and more.
Codes has also released a myriad of tunes across This Ain’t Bristol, Weapons, HedKandi, and Slow Roast Records, as well as remixes for labels like Fools Gold, Ultra, and Main Course. His latest releases have received recognition from the likes of Shiba San, Anna Lunoe, Valentino Khan, and Wax Motif, to name a few.
While Codes maintains his authentic, underground vibe, he has also grown exponentially within the last couple of years, with appearances at massive events like HARD Summer, Amsterdam’s Valtifest, and Camp Bisco, as well as gigs at legendary venues around the country. His exposure is likely due to his refreshing lack of confinement to any one genre. Instead, this artist is known for tackling the many facets of dance music with ease and finesse.
Codes recently wrapped up his 20-date STMPD RCRDS tour, but he just announced additional tour dates. Don’t miss your chance to see him live this Saturday for some Night Bass at the Monarch Theatre alongside AC Slater and Sinden. Grab your tickets here.
