YetepIt’s been a mere two months since we last heard from Chris Emerson, better know as What So Not, and now he’s back in the feeds with a sultry new single. His latest is a collab with American songstress and Netflix star Herizen titled “We Can Be Friends.” Although it’s a rather optimistic title to the song, when you dive into the bars you will quickly realize, the term “Friends” isn’t as inviting as it sounds.
Thriving on the emotive heartache of a relationship gone sour, “We Can Be Friends” hits you in the feels are wisps you away in that classic What So Not way. Speaking on the effortless partnership Chris reveals the intimate behind the scenes of the track.
“On the first take, Herizen belted out the chorus over some chords I was playing,” he says of the experience. “We caught a moment and ran with it. I’d been listening to a lot of Dilla, did some simple drum programming and played in textures and riffs on a Nord. As the song developed I retained that feel, keeping the production light and lush centering the song around the beautiful and haunting vocal.”
The Spring sees What So Not kick off his Beautiful Things World Tour. Starting this month, Emerson will be galavanting around the U.S., brining his sexy sound to a city near you. This tour of his is brining him to Big Surf in Tempe, AZ for our 10th anniversary of Wet Electric. What So Not joins RL Grime, Benny Benassi and Tails for this epic event. Tickets are on sale now, grab them here!
