YetepFrom producer and DJ to vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, SG Lewis knows how to spark dancefloor euphoria whether he’s behind the DJ decks or front stage. His disco-tinged records ooze nostalgia, with glossy synths and honeyed lyricism emitting a charm that has yet to be replicated in dance music.
SG Lewis’ 2021 debut album, times, was a coalescence of house, disco, and pop—an ode to the neon strobes of nightclubs. His follow-up album AudioLust & HigherLove, released January 27th, opens up a different dimension of his artistry as he experiments with new musical textures and steps into the role of lead vocalist. On his sophomore album, Lewis reflects on the duality of love; AudioLust & HigherLove is where the heady rush of infatuation and the warm buzz of authentic connection intersect.
Ranging from the feverish synth work of “Call On Me” (featuring pop sensation Tove Lo) to 80s new wave anthem “Missing You” and retro break-up ballad “Oh Laura,” the first part of the album embodies the turbulent and lustful nature of ego-driven relationships. The Balearic instrumentals of “Epiphany,” produced alongside Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, feel like a psychedelic sunset that fades into the album’s second half.
HigherLove represents deep, fulfilling love, featuring tracks such as yacht-rock-influenced “Lifetime,” a contemporary wedding song at its essence, and “Plain Sailing,” which continues to provide respite from the album’s first half with sun-kissed vocals and glimmering synths. Raw and vulnerable, “Honest” is a sentimental lullaby of Lewis’ gentle croon and serene bells that carry you into a blissful dream state.
With its stunning emotional depth and pristine production, AudioLust & HigherLove is the culmination of SG Lewis’ evolution in his own life and as a musician. Taking a step back from club-driven music, Lewis’ sophomore album marks a new era for the artist as he delves into other facets of his effortless musicality.
