YetepWhat I love about electronic music is the limitless potential for artists to craft unique sounds. Unlike classical musicians confined to their instruments, electronic artists have an infinite array of possibilities within a track. They can construct a captivating sonic landscape that perfectly conveys their vision, and various genres in EDM showcase different artists’ styles. In this article, let’s delve into five bass drops that promise to bend your mind. Check it out!
“Blame (Nghtmre Remix)” by ZHU, NGHTMRE, Ekali
First on the list is an incredible remix of “Blame” by Nghtmre. The song kicks off with a serene composition featuring beautiful vocal chops before ZHU’s vocals blend seamlessly. As the buildup progresses, you can hear arpeggios in the background, gradually building up. The pre-drop melody leads to a mind-bending trap drop that seems to tear through space, perfectly complementing the wonderful chord progression. This track is ideal for a rainy day drive!
“Take Flight” by Sullivan King, Subtronics
Next up is a collaboration between Subtronics and Sullivan King, taking bass to the next level. Despite several VIPs of the song, the original stands out like nothing else. Sullivan King’s screams usher in the first verse, leading to a buildup where trap sounds gradually intensify. In the drop, a piercing trap sound breaks the sound barrier, accentuated by deep bass notes. Brace yourself if you get the chance to hear this song live!
“Night Rider” by Abraxis, Crystal Skies, Dimibo
A surprising collaboration between psytrance artist Abraxis and melodic bass artist Crystal Skies, this track starts with a quick beat and heavy down beats. The initial drops are intense psytrance with excellent accents and overall great composition. The mind-bending twist comes in the last drop, opening with heavy, dark melodic chords before dropping into a nasty dubstep section that feels like it’s bringing down the entire world. If you’re a dubstep enthusiast, this song is a must!
“Magnetic” by Similar Outskirts
Similar Outskirts deserves more recognition for this insane track, one of my all-time favorites. The first drop exudes a video game vibe through its chords and sound design. The second buildup takes you on a journey, cascading several times and opening into a pre-drop with muted sounds, unfolding into a colorful masterpiece of sound. The pitch blending, complemented by a heavy chord progression, promises to blow your mind.
“Some Minds” by Flume, Andrew Wyatt
Concluding this list is Flume, the master of future and experimental bass. The song begins reminiscent of old-school Flume, with calm chord progressions and an echoey dominant vocal pattern. The second drop, however, is where he truly crafts a masterpiece. With an intricately built, drawn-out buildup, the drop unfolds into sharp, clear sounds creating an incredible melody, supported by a powerful bass pattern. This sharp melodic sound adds incredible movement to the song, making it wonderfully crafted. Perfect for watching the sunset!
