YetepFrom the swamps to the mountains, “On The Rocks” blends history, humor, and hype into a wonky love letter to the famous concert venue. The Red Rocks Amphitheater is a gorgeous venue in Morrison, Colorado surrounded by mountains and majestic canyons. This is a bucket list venue for all frequent concert goers and hosts a variety of genres including EDM and Reggae. Red Rocks is the perfect venue to craft an EDM song around. Excellent Choice!
Eclectic Louisiana producer Boogie T has dedicated his latest single to the historic (and legendary) venue. The cover of the single contains a whiskey bottle with the name of the song/artist, as well as the year of release listed on it. A smoking Boogie T is depicted on the bottle, and a Red Rocks-inspired canyon can be seen on top of the bottle’s cork. “On The Rocks” begins with a vivid description of the venue, as well as a brief history lesson on the founding of the Morrison area and Red Rocks Venue. A variety of cartoon sound effects can be heard in the background, a common trait of Boogie T’s finest tracks, along with the famed “OOF” sound effect from Roblox. Boogie T is known for unique and humorous production choices like these, while balancing them out with some SERIOUS wubs. These effects continue as the narrator explains some of the strange Do’s and Don’ts of the Red Rocks Amphitheater. Believe it or not, there are some odd rules and prohibited items listed in venue policy including:
“No glitter, that s*** gets EVERYWHERE!”
“No whole fruits and vegetables (Who knew?)”
“No hula hoops… SORRY!”
The exasperated narrator is in disbelief over some of these policies, as Boogie T’s swampy instrumentals bounce up and down, on top on sturdy bass and intricate synths. The instrumentals spiral around and around over lumbering drums and some stringed basslines. Woahhh. Another surprising policy revealed by the narrator is that it is not against the rules to ride a live miniature horse into the venue. Who started this and how many people have attempted this in total? We need ANSWERS. This unexpected reveal brings this track to a close.
This is a fun and unique song. It is very experimental and works on every level. Boogie T is a master at transforming unique monologues and long-form soundbites into memorable songs. His unique upbringing, hobbies, and interests help him stand out amongst the crowd. Give this one a listen.
