YetepMarshmello and Svdden Death, otherwise known as the group Mellodeath, are the world’s hottest bass supergroup, and they are taking the world by storm. What initially started as a few collabs, which turned into an unexpected B2B set at EDC Las Vegas 2023, has now evolved into a complete collab EP and tour, featuring earth-shattering drops and mind-blowing production. While this combination might seem extremely unexpected on paper, it is a mutually beneficial relationship for both artists, and I am excited to explore the intricacies of Mellodeath.
When their first B2B set at EDC Las Vegas 2023 was announced, everyone was unsure what the set was going to be like. Sure, all of their collabs were bass music, but for an entire B2B set, people were unsure if Marshmello would cater to the more mainstream crowd at arguably the biggest mainstream festival in the country. Bass fans rejoiced when they not only played dubstep but also explored many different subgenres in the bass world, scorching the earth with their set. Recently, they have completed a short tour, complete with pop-ups at the most random locations, playing the heaviest music imaginable.
While this combination may seem odd on the surface, it is mutually beneficial for both artists. Marshmello used to produce bass music as Dotcom, so it’s not too surprising that he wanted a way back into the bass world, as he has been hinting at it publicly for years before Mellodeath. Svdden Death, who is one of the world’s best bass producers currently, perhaps ever, benefits from partnering with Marshmello as it gives him an “in” into the mainstream music scene. Bass fans have accepted this supergroup with open arms! On the flip side, Marshmello likely has more connections and the ability to invest in things like huge production, pop-up locations, and large venues. This gives Svdden Death exposure to those connections and proves that he can sell out those huge venues, which will be great for him the next time he plans a tour.
While I do think Marshmello would have gotten into the bass world by himself, and Svdden Death would have eventually made the high-level connections, the supergroup has accelerated both of these things. The real winners are us though, as this combination truly is galaxy-destroying and is a sight you must see!
