Liquid Stranger & ProbCause Enter the Laser Realm with ‘Trailblazer’

Legendary DJ and WAKAAN label owner Liquid Stranger is back at it again with another wonky track! The single, titled “Trailblazer,” brings MADDY O’NEAL and GRiZ collaborator ProbCause along for the ride. His distinct flow is an excellent companion for Liquid Stranger’s dynamic and varied production style. ProbCause has been involved with the previously mentioned EDM acts, as well as Chicago rap duo The Palmer Squares. Establishing a varied resume of collaborations and joint efforts. Liquid Stranger draws inspiration from a plethora of genres and cultures. Mashing together unlikely genre mixes to create full-bodied tracks. The genre-bending abilities of the collaborators shine through every minute of this awesome track. Let’s get into it!

“Trailblazer” starts off on a funky note with groovy basslines, velvety synths, and noodling guitar riffs. Tambuorines and rhythmic chants give the track a serene and atmospheric feel. Crisp drums naturally bounce off of the guitar riffs while the track picks up steam. Bass waves crash in and out of “Trailblazer” Plampy drums form a bridge that descends into a gorgeous, dubby beat. A quick history lesson for readers: the “dub” in “dubstep” refers to a sub-genre of reggae that often takes out the vocals. Placing emphasis on the genre’s signature upbeat and danceable rhythms (with an electronic twist!) Anyways, Back to the track! ProbCause’s flow takes center stage:

“Louder than a bomb when we drop. That bass don’t stop. Make the sub rumble. Blowing up the spot. Probzilla entered the stage and spit napalm. Stay calm. I’m in the pocket like an eight ball. Bring out the lasers, they cannot phase us. Homie sending good vibrations to my haters. Get out the maze. Imma Create a new place. This music is the medicine and we the trailblazers.”

WOW!! This first verse is simply mind-blowing and exemplifies the strengths of the track’s collaborators. The steady dub beat marches along with a fuzzy undercurrent of wubs. Splatter effects and soaring crescendoes form craters in the plampy drum beat. “Trailblazer” then goes into hyperdrive. “Let it go crazy. BRING OUT THE LAZERS!” A single splatter and laser beam brings on the first drop. The boys are NOT JOKING. There are plenty of lasers to be found here. Wonky laser fire transforms into a pleasant metallic whirring. A “HEY” chant works in tandem with the hip-hop drum beat and whirring effects. The beat revs before once again entering the laser realm. Mind-blowing spirals shoot off like meteorites in all directions. Liquid Stranger has the ability to create some of the wildest frequencies and sound elements I have ever heard. “Trailblazer” is no exception and follows this rule in spades.

The slithering frequencies continue, sliced by sharp wonks and buzzing synths. “Trailblazer” then does the unthinkable and builds up AGAIN. A gargantuan laser beam fires through the roof of a WAKAAN pyramid to bring the beat right back. Is this an extended first drop, or a brand new one?? The velvet and Dub rhythms return. Now joined by squeaks and chirps. The beat whirs beyond comprehension as ProbCause continues to spit. “The bass don’t stop” indeed.

A funky bridge takes hold. Briefly combining the introduction with the dub beat. The beat builds once again, joined by ProbCause of course. This drop is vastly different. Placing more emphasis on the wubs instead of the lasers. The 2:45 to 3:30 timestamp is so mesmerizing that it beyond description. This is an unbelievable collaboration with euphoric production and a rap flow that adds balance to the controlled chaos going on beyond Probcause. This is probably my favorite Liquid Stranger associated release since “Arizona” off of his 2023 EP Unity. This is a must-listen that you do not want to miss.
