YetepGorillaT has been making a major splash in the 2020s electronic music scene. He has released two beautifully crafted albums and countless high quality singles throughout his career. GorillaT is also a versatile producer capable of multiple styles and genres. From chill, laid back numbers like “Personal,” to kaleidoscopic rager “Uplift” (a collaboration with mentor Hostage Situation). His primate production style and iconic avatars have helped him create an effective brand.
The talented Denver-based producer is kicking off 2025 with the melodic wonkfest “Wild Side.” A colorful and laid back track that has been ever-present in my playlists lately. “Wild Side” begins with light, shuffling drum effects and pleasantly pitched-up vocals. A steady wave of bass comes in, providing a foundation for the vocals. Jungle-like drum beats lead into the first drop. Interwoven with the pitched-up vocals from the intro. The drums and wonks are especially chill in this one. “Wild Side” then breaks into a brief starry interlude that loops with the vocals. This bridges into a euphoric sample that says:
“A remarkable…remarkable sensation. I am not afraid.”
This sample pairs especially well with the existing vocals and light drum effects. The loop then returns with a haze of bass gathered above it. Splashy drum effects and searing bass build anticipation for the track’s final build up. With the final drop taking on a techno bounce that morphs into House. Sharp bass slices through the song’s changing tone along with primate production notes. Fading out into the universe. “Wild Side” is an incredible step in GorillaT’s artistic journey. His eye for detail and ability to rapidly shift in tone while remaining grounded makes for some SERIOUS bangers. Skills that have (and will continue to) serve him well in his career. He can create face melting bass tracks and intricate wonderlands like “Wild Side” while remaining true to his brand. GorillaT is a top DJ to watch in 2025 and I cannot wait to see what he has in store for us.
