Liquid Drum & Bass icon Netsky has had a storied career and discography. Steadily releasing songs from 2009 to the present day. Never going more than two years without releasing a single and/or album. That kind of work ethic and consistency is admirable. Netsky blends the effective breakbeats of DnB with vocal samples, piano/keyboards, and low rumbles of bass. Drawing inspiration from numerous genres outside of EDM. These include Soul, R&B, Jazz, Funk, and Gospel.
Netsky is bringing his multi-genre capabilities to this year’s running of Relentless Beat’s intergalactic party, PHXLIGHTS Solar Sound System. 2025’s Phoenix Lights Festival will be held at the Rawhide Event Center on April 4th and 5th. This Wild West-inspired venue is located in Chandler, Arizona, down the road from the Gila River Resort. His melody-laced liquid DnB moves at a fluid pace and is sure to massage the brains of the crowd on Day Two, while the breakbeats keep their feet moving.
In this article, I will be revisiting Netsky’s part of his 2010 breakout, self-titled album. Specifically the “Iron Heart,” “Moving With You,” and “Secret Agent” triple threat. These tracks effortlessly flow into one another and feature several production differences. All while remaining loyal to the DnB breakbeats. The album was released through the legendary Hospital Records.
“Iron Heart” takes off with layers of plampy drums, shuffling lasers, and intricate synth lines. The song alternates between rolling breakbeats and a starry, atmospheric blanket of sound. Balancing melody and intensity. Sweeping crescendoes rise and fall. Leading into catchy drops. “Iron Heart” is beat-driven and features a melodic hook that keeps you immersed throughout.
“Moving With You (Feat. Jenna G)” keeps to the Liquid DnB melody/speed combo, while seamlessly blending in Soul/R&B style-vocals. These vocals are high enough accentuate the beat’s rising points, while being low enough to dance with the baselines. The lyrics capture a deep relationship in which the narrator wants to move with someone:
“In the evening, on the weekends, every hour, each minute.” While sharing a simultaneous heartbeat.
Jenna G’s vocals are layered, which helps demonstrate her range. Her voice soars, bends, and comes back down to earth when needed. Matching the duality of Liquid DnB perfectly.
“Secret Agent” begins like a breakbeat-infused lullaby. Soothing, smooth production notes and muted wubs bounce off of the thick breakbeats. Welcoming us into Netsky’s storybook land, while sparks of electricity gradually form. “Secret Agent” then breaks into psychedelic territory with fuzzy synth and ticking undertones. Heartbeat-like drums grow in intensity, before dropping the listener into a surreal, cascading drop. The shimmering track segment around the two minute mark is a track highlight. Briefly bringing the song into dubstep territory. The mid-track bridge extends into rest of the drops, looping back to the intro before fading.
This album is FANTASTIC from cover to cover and sure to get you hyped for Netsky’s out-of-this-world set at PHXLIGHTS: Solar Sound System. Get tickets HERE!
