YetepAfter thinking about how many artists have evolved their trance-like sound over the last decade, it may be safer to say that trance music itself has evolved. At least, that’s what the new massive tune from Finnish artist Yotto “Is This Trance?” made me consider. Maybe that’s the point of the title, and I think there may even be more to it beyond that. My first exposure to Yotto’s sound was at ABGT250, opening for the Trance Godfathers, Above & Beyond. His sound, however, was very much tuned to the Anjunadeep label; a deep dark progressive house sound. My Second exposure to Yotto’s sound was at Tomorrowland 2019 where he played on a trance stage. This performance had his familiar dark sound, but with the pulse and blood of a high energy trance set.
Yotto – Is This Trance?
The result of these musical evolutions is a new banger in the form of “Is This Trance?” It opens reserved and lets you get lost in the track, then drops a big synth chorus right over your head. It’s floaty, uplifting, fast, but Is This Trance? You decide.
