I think something that shines in the EDM world is the creativity of the artists. EDM naturally lends itself to creativity, as you can essentially create anything, even sounds never before heard. One thing I love is coming across old classics that EDM artists have put their own spin on. These songs bring nostalgia but also that fresh EDM feel that brings the party to any group setting. These tracks are perfect to add to your party or pregame playlist. I hope you discover something new!
“Beethoven Riddim” by REALEZT
This first song is for all the bass lovers. It’s a classic Beethoven piece, and listening to the first part brings back memories of learning it on the piano. It starts off calm, but as it builds up, you can tell the drop is going to be anything but calm. The hook is strong, with huge bass notes relentlessly attacking you. The drop maintains the original chord progression but with heavy bass notes that will get any headbanger excited!
“Come Together” by Urbandawn, Tyson Kelly
This was a pleasant surprise when I came across it, and it has been on my drum and bass playlist ever since. It’s a classic song with a funky feel, and the drop is an infectious drum and bass beat that gets you dancing. The breakdown at the halfway point of both drops is incredible, double-timing the notes to create a beat with so much movement, you won’t be able to stop dancing!
“Dream On (GRiZ Remix)” by Aerosmith, GRiZ
Another classic song turned EDM, this one still holds up today even 12 years later. GRiZ has an incredible ability to create funky beats that are very bassy, and this song is exactly that. The drops are wavy and funky, but the sound design is very electronic and will put you in a world of wonder. This song is a Soundcloud exclusive, so check it out!
“Still Don’t Know My Name (Felix Cartal’s Euphoria Remix” by Labrinth, Felix Cartal
Who wasn’t obsessed with Euphoria? I love when artists put their spin on popular TV show songs, and Felix Cartal absolutely nailed this one. It has a quick, infectious house beat from the get-go and quickly builds up with incredible anticipation. The drop is amazing and will get any dance floor or pregame hyped!
“Thriller (Crankdat Remix)” by Michael Jackson, Crankdat
Crankdat, the master of flips, absolutely crushed it with his remix of one of the most classic songs ever. Crankdat mostly produces bass house, and this track is one of his best. The hook is incredible, with synths creating a cascading effect that draws you in, and then dub notes serve as the melody during a super fun drop. This is a perfect song to listen to before a show, as the excitement from it is unmatched!
