YetepAlbums are a labor of love and offer a glimpse into an artist’s universe where they create entirely new worlds. With a full-length album, an artist can truly flex their creative muscles, crafting a more cohesive piece compared to a single or an EP. Because of that, an EDM album is often dynamic, exploring different facets of an artist’s style beyond just their primary genre.
Welcome to “The Greatest Album by Album” series, where we dive into albums that I believe belong in the top echelon of the industry.
Odesza – The Last Goodbye – Released in 2022
This album was my introduction to Odesza (shocking, I know), and it blew me away. Odesza has it all—incredible (honestly, that’s an understatement) musical production, where they can create multiple journeys that fuse together into one cohesive song. Their sound production techniques are top-notch, crafting intricate melodies, countermelodies, basslines, and harmonies. Their live shows are a true standout, especially when they perform with their drumline. And let’s talk about their range—from house to future bass, ambient downtempo, and even a few bass tracks, Odesza has the entire package. Their undeniable popularity exists for a reason, and this album is a perfect showcase of that.
In 2022, after years away from the spotlight, Odesza released The Last Goodbye and reignited the passion fans had for them. This album is a true masterpiece, with every song being a bop. With amazing vocals throughout, it tells a story—one that deserves multiple listens. “Love Letter” is a standout, with synth riffs creating melodies that no one else could think of. “Behind the Sun,” their opening track on tour, hammers the audience with sharp, aggressive sounds supported by an insane chord progression. And of course, this blog wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the title track, “The Last Goodbye.” This song blew me away. The rhythm, the melody, the multiple drop styles—it’s no wonder this song was the first release that announced their return to the scene. This album is truly one of the best of all time.
Odesza went on tour to showcase this album, playing some of the biggest venues and festivals America has to offer. While they’re on a (much deserved) break right now, they reconfirmed at their last performance that “there is no last goodbye.” Here’s to hoping Odesza sticks around for a long time—they are a true gift to humanity.
